Abstract

Petitenget Temple is one of the Local Cultural Heritage Sites in North Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, and is also a Dang Kahyangan temple maintained by the Kerobokan Traditional Village community. Located in Banjar Batu Belig, Kerobokan Traditional Village, North Kuta District, the temple boasts distinctive visual qualities that enhance its appeal as a cultural tourism destination. These visual qualities reflect the efforts to preserve and protect Petitenget Temple as a Local Cultural Heritage Site in Badung Regency. The temple's visual character is expressed through its form, lines, colors, textures, scale and proportion, and architectural ornaments. Among these ornaments, the use of Chinese ceramic plates on the pelinggih (sacred shrines) represents a distinctive historical element. However, their use has gradually declined and is rarely incorporated into the construction or renovation of temples in Bali today. This study aims to examine the visual quality of Petitenget Temple, focusing on the Padmasana and Gedong shrines. A qualitative method, employing historical and rationalistic approaches, was employed to reconstruct the temple's visual quality based on its historical development. Data were collected through literature review, field observations, and interviews. The main finding is that Petitenget Temple's visual quality is shaped by cultural heritage conservation efforts, historical values, and the policies of the temple custodians, all of which preserve the temple's authenticity and architectural identity.
